Legal Status of Abortion in Burkina Faso - Additional Studies

• Some researchers have estimated that nearly 9 out of 10 abortions in Burkina Faso are unsafe, with higher risk for unsafe abortion among older women, less educated women,and women in rural areas.  Up to 32% of women reported that they used traditional methods of abortion, while only 7.3% reported using misoprostol or mifepristone.  Nearly a quarter of women (24.8%) of women who used pills to terminate pregnancy could not identify the type of medication (Bell et al, 2022).
